WonHundred Word Wednesday: Like Father Like Son

I'm back! After taking a (way too long) hiatus, I'm excited to be back and writing these flash fiction pieces again. So, without further ado:

Prompt: She told him he looked like his father.

My Story:

The woman looked up at Slate. “This won’t work.”

“Don’t be so pessimistic,” he mumbled.

She told him he looked like his father.

Slate ground his teeth. His father was the exact opposite of everything he was. And he refused to let Slate forget it.

“He won’t let you go through with this.” Her voice was confident, her expression defiant. “He’ll stop you. Again.”

Slate’s mouth curved up into a sneer. “Fortunately, where he is, he’ll never be able to interfere again.” He held a knife to her throat. “Now, will you help me? Or must I kill you too?”

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Betrayed

Hey there readers! Here's something rare: a 100 word story! Check it out below!

The Prompt: She moved to stop him in his tracks

My Story:

Diana narrowed her eyes at Drake. “I can’t believe you’d do this! After all we’ve done together.”

He smiled at her, that cold smile she’d loved to see him aim at so many of the criminals they’d tracked down. “Sorry, babe. But they made me an offer I couldn’t refuse.” He started to walk past her.

She moved to stop him in his tracks, but the gun pressed into her back kept her in her place.

Drake slowed, winking as he passed by.

“Don’t think this is over, Drake,” she spat. “You should know by now, never cross a woman.”

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Falsely Accused

Hey there readers!

I'm here with another flash fiction for you!

The prompt: You've only heard his point of view. You never asked mine

My Story:

The guard closed the jail door with a clang, the sound echoing through Tenia’s heart. She grasped the bars, forcing herself to remain calm. “Please don’t do this. You’ve only heard his point of view. You never asked mine.” She choked on the words as, despite her resolve, tears fell from her eyes. “You never even let me tell you what happened.”

“You’d only lie anyway.” The sheriff stepped forward. “Why should we believe you, witch?” He sneered.

Tenia let her tears fall freely now. Imprisonment was one thing, being betrayed by the man you loved was something else entirely.

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Unsolved Murder

Hey all!

I'm making an appearance with a 100 word story for you today! Check it out below!

The Prompt: There had been many theories about how she had been murdered

My Story:

Shannon Richley. There had been many theories about how she had been murdered, but no one knew for sure. Largely because they never found her body, only the pool of her blood in the kitchen. Her name was in the papers for weeks, begging anyone with information to come forward. But no one had – the perfect murder.

Today marked the five-year anniversary of her death, and Officer Blake had reopened her file.

Shannon set down the newspaper bearing her face with a chuckle before taking a long sip of her coffee. They hadn’t found her yet -- they never would.

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Home Sweet Home

Hey there awesome readers! Here's this week's flash fiction!

The prompt: The place had a radiance about it

My story:

The front door creaked as I pushed it open, the scent of dust strong in the air. “Home sweet home,” I murmured. Though it had been empty for two years and was in serious need of some TLC, the place had a radiance about it. I could already picture how it would look once everything was cleaned up.

The door swung shut behind me, making me jump. I turned, but no one was there. The lights flickered and a chill swept through the air, making me shiver.

I’d considered getting a roommate, but hadn’t planned on her being a ghost.

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Lose Everything

Oh my, it's Wednesday and it's late. But I'm here! I've got another Regency for ya today. So travel back to 1820, London, England

The prompt: If you leave now, you lose everything.

My story:

I remained still, one hand on the doorknob, refusing to break Father’s stare, though my heart thudded painfully.

“If you leave now, you lose everything. I will ensure you receive nothing of the inheritance,” he said, his voice as cold as his eyes.

Losing the money meant little now. I did not lower my gaze.

Seeming to sense my resolve, Father lowered his voice. “Understand me, child, I do mean everything. The inheritance, your home, your family.”

My mouth fell open.

He smirked, knowing he had me trapped.

My brain worked furiously. Was true love worth trading for my family?

WonHundred Word Wednesday: The Slip

Hey there readers! It's Wednesday again and I'm here with another Flash Fiction for ya. This week, I bring you a tiny bit from my book Circumstance. So once again, we travel back to Regency England.

The prompt: Her foot slipped ans she started to fall

My Story:

Audrey stepped on a sheet of hard ice. Her foot slipped and she started to fall. Mr. Bryant caught her easily about the waist, holding her until she regained her footing. She lifted her face toward his, a mere breath away, her heart thudding mercilessly. He released her, but laced her hand through his arm.

“Perhaps I ought to assist you.”

Audrey nearly argued, knowing the battle between mind and heart that would ensue. But the tenderness in his eyes convinced her to accept. Besides, the day was fine, the company more than pleasant, and it was Christmas after all.

This is a piece of a scene that I just love! I fixed it up to match the prompt a little nicer than the original scene. This book is not yet published, but I can't wait for the time that it's ready! I hope you enjoyed it and don't forget to check out our Facebook page to read the rest of the stories. Happy reading!

WonHundred Word Wednesday: The Old Woman

Hey it's Wednesday! After flaking out last week, I'm back this week. And here's this week's story.

The prompt: The old woman turned and smiled

My Story:

The woman stood stooped over a table, her back to Amber.

“I will tell you where to find your necklace, my dear Princess. But first you must do something for me.”

Relief flooded Amber’s heart. She’d been foolish to wear the necklace, to lose it, foolish to risk the kingdom’s safety. But at last, the journey was nearly over. At last she could return home to her father. “Yes, please tell me. I will do anything.”

The witch’s laugh sent shivers down Amber’s spine. The old woman turned and smiled. “All I need you to do, is kill the king!”

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Meet on the bridge

Hey readers! This weeks' 100 word story was tough! I wanted to write so much more! Some day I may have to turn this into a longer story. It's crazy how much I love these characters already even though I only know 100 or so words of their story. Anyway, here is a little taste to get you interested before I (some day) write the rest. :) We're stepping back in time again and country hopping to England, 1809.

The prompt: Midnight, on the bridge. Come alone.

My story:

Caroline’s breath clouded in the air as she laughed at the note Christopher had sent her. 'Midnight, on the bridge. Come alone.' As if she was foolish enough to bring someone along. Her feet trod the well-known path to the bridge where they had met on more than one occasion.

“So sorry I’m late,” she called, laughing still.

He turned towards her, an intensity in his usually lazy gaze, making her heart race.

“I have a question for you,” he said.

A deep voice called from behind. “I have a few questions of my own.”

She whipped around, terrified. “Father!”

WonHundred Word Wednesday: The natives

Happy Wednesday, readers! Here we have another flash fiction for you.

The prompt: It was a freezing night when the natives took up arms.

My story:

It was a freezing night when the natives took up arms. To be honest, we’d been half expecting it, but we’d never suspected the terror that would ensue. They led a clever attack, waiting until only moments after we’d drifted to sleep, secure in our warm bed. They sent the youngest to the battle lines first, her tiny wail piercing the midnight air. Brother and sister alike joined her call, their energy unprecedented, their demands endless, refusing consolation. For hours, relentless cries destroyed our peace.
I collapsed beside my husband, tearful and exhausted. “Why won’t they just go to sleep!?”

I think all of us parents have been there, right? :) Don't forget to read the other stories by going to our Facebook page! Thanks for reading!

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Forgotten name

Hello readers! Welcome to Wednesday! Here's a 100 word story to get your day going.

The prompt: Even I have forgotten my name

My Story:

I never believed in the curse, but I do now. Four words, muttered in moonlight. Forever tied, until remembered. I was a free soul, a roamer, chained to nothing and no one, making memories every day. Until the day I died. I awoke here, unable to leave, unable to rest. I’ve been here so long, even I have forgotten my name. Only reading it on my headstone each day reminds me. One visitor is all it will take to break the curse, to release me. One person who remembers me, loves me. Yet here I wait, and no one comes.

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Quick, hide!

Hey readers! Late in the day again, but still here on Wednesday. :) I've got a silly little flash fiction for you today! Check it out:

The prompt: Quick, hide behind the sofa

My story:

You can’t trust a charming guy. Darren taught me that. We’d been dating for two months and were watching a movie at his place when the lock on the front door turned. He leapt off the couch. “Quick, hide behind the sofa!”

“What? Why?” I asked.

“Just do it!” He tugged at my arm.

The door swung open, a tall blonde chick stared at me. “Who are you?” she asked.

“Darren’s girlfriend. Who are you?”

“I’m his girlfriend.”

I snagged Darren’s cell phone as it buzzed, reading the text aloud ‘I miss you, baby.’

Darren grinned, “Ladies, I can explain.”

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Outside the Cabin

Hey readers! I'm a little late today, but hey! I'm here! That's three for three! :) Without further ado!

The prompt: Outside the cabin, the wind howled through the trees

My story:

Callie crouched beneath the darkened window of an upstairs room. She peered out the window. Outside the cabin, the wind howled through the trees, making shadows nearly indiscernible. But her trained eye found them. Ten enemies, waiting for the command to attack. A glance at her watch made her swear under her breath.  There was only an hour to get back and deliver the package. She couldn’t waste any more time. Scott’s life depended on her success. She inched the window open, grateful it didn’t squeak. Raising her rifle, Callie took aim at the first target and squeezed the trigger.

The characters in this flash fiction tie in with the characters in this flash fiction, just for fun! Let me know what you think in the comments and don't forget to check out the other stories on our Facebook page!

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Regret

It's Wednesday, everyone! Here's this week's flash fiction.

The prompt: This wasn’t where he wanted to be

My story:

Five nights. Five nights in a row now he’d sat in the same spot on this couch playing video games. He had been so sure this was what he wanted. Time. Time alone, to do what ever he wanted. He had expected a feeling of freedom, not this crushing weight on his heart. Not the doubt overshadowing every thought and every action. What had he done? This wasn’t where he wanted to be. He wanted to be with her, but was he too late? There was only one way to know. He grabbed his coat and ran out the door.

WonHundred Word Wednesday: The Curse

Hey readers! It's been a while, but with a new year, I want to work on my writing and these prompts help me out a lot. Plus they are lots of fun! Here's this weeks' prompt, I hope you enjoy it!

The prompt: The whole family had been cursed since

My story:

Annia looked out over the graveyard. She clutched the medallion in one hand, an ancient sword in the other. One task left, and she would be free. Her whole family had been cursed since her ancestor stole the medallion centuries ago. The price grew higher with each passing generation, and Annia was ready to end it once and for all. The journey had been long and hard. But now, all she had to do was return the medallion to its proper place in the crypt. If only it were that easy. She gripped the sword tightly, stepping into the shadows.

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Drastic Action

Good afternoon, dear readers! Today is Wednesday and I've prepared a 100 word story for your reading pleasure.

The prompt: More and more people were refusing to obey the laws.

My story:

Sheriff Williams looked out the window over the town center. Even from there, he could see the crime taking place on his streets. Pick pockets, thieves stealing food from the vendors, and illegal sales in dark corners. More and more people were refusing to obey the laws., and as sheriff, the responsibility was his to control it.

He tapped the letter against his hand. It held permission from the king to do something drastic. He'd hoped it wouldn't come to this, such actions would bring the townspeople to their knees. But he'd tried everything else.

He sighed. It was time.

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Terrible News

It's Wednesday again! This post is coming to you late today, but it is here! This week, I'm transporting you back to 1808 in England. Enjoy!

The prompt: He held her close before telling her the terrible news

My story:

Fredrick’s heart pounded as he waited Mr. Gardner’s decision. The old man looked him over, clearly assessing him. Painful seconds ticked by. “No,” he said at last.

“But, sir,” Fredrick began. Gardner glared at him. “If you would please reconsider.”

“My answer is no, no amount of gutless begging will convince me to change my mind. Now get off my land.”

Fredrick snatched his hat and left with haste. He went to the garden where he knew Georgine waited. The hopeful look in her eyes crushed him. He held her close before telling her the terrible news. “He said no.”

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Clearing Ground

Hey readers! Here we are at Wednesday again, can you believe it? Hope you're ready for this week's story!

The Prompt: He itched to clear the ground, to look out and see nothing

My Story:

He itched to clear the ground, to look out and see nothing but forest and lake. Muttering under his breath, he set to work.

Early the next morning, he stood at his window, hiding a smile in his cup of coffee. Smoke and ashes filled the air, but there was no obstruction to his sunrise. The firemen hadn’t arrived in time to save the building. It was the thought of her there with another man that drove him to it. She should have known better then to build a cabin facing his on their split land. She’d know better now.

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Not the First Time, Not the Last.

It's Wednesday! Here's my 100 word story for the week!

The prompt: Someone must have seen him, because the police were at his door

My story:

Damien hurried to the sink in the garage. It took three times washing his hands before they came clean. He retrieved the bundle from the car, opened the hidden compartment under a cupboard, and stashed it there before going inside. Red and blue light flashed through his window. Someone must have seen him, because the police were at his door. He wiped his hands on his jeans and took three steadying breaths. Composing his face into a calm expression was easy, he’d done it so often. Charming smile in place, he answered the door. “Hello, officers. Can I help you?”

WonHundred Word Wednesday: The Talk

It's Wednesday, dear readers! Which means I have another flash fiction story for you.

The prompt: As he opened the car door, there was a loud

My story:

Tim pulled into an open parking spot. “We’re here,” he said. As he opened the car door, there was a loud sigh. Clenching his fist, he looked over at her. “We’re not going to talk about this now.”

“We have to talk about it sooner or later.”

“We’ll do it when we get home, then.”

She rolled her eyes. “I’ve heard that before.”

“Well, it’s not something I really want to talk about.”

She reached across him and pulled his door closed. “We have to do this tonight. If we don’t make a decision, we’ll both be dead by morning.”
