WonHundred Word Wednesday: Knocking

Once again, I've gotten a bit behind. But here's part of my effort to catch up. :)

Prompt: Was it a knock that had woken her?

My story:

Krista jumped awake.

She rubbed sleep from her eyes, trying to remember the dream she had been having. A shadowy figure drifted through her memory. Had she felt happy, scared or… something else? She couldn’t remember.

A knock sounded from downstairs. Was it a knock that had woken her? It was 5:00 AM, who would be knocking now?

Halfway down the stairs, she noticed the shadowy figure outside the door. Remembering her dream, she hesitated before hurrying down.

Krista opened the door a crack before throwing it open wide.

“Dad?”

Tears glistened in his eyes. “Hey, baby girl. I’m back.”

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Frantic Search

Here are again folks, and here is your 100 word story!

The prompt: As she searched, her movements were frantic

My story:

Anna ignored the tugging on her skirt until it stopped. Looking away from her grocery list, she turned to her three-year-old son.

He was gone.

She turned on the spot, scanning the area around her, but saw no little boy. She ran down the aisle, forcing down the panic that quickly built. He had to be close, it had only been a few seconds. As she searched, her movements were frantic, nearly colliding with several shoppers. She approached the last aisle, praying he’d be there. Halfway down the candy aisle the boy sat, mouth full and hands covered in chocolate.

It's amazing what kids can do in a matter of seconds. I hope you enjoyed it, and as always, be sure to check out the other stories today too!

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Family History

Hey folks!! Sorry I've been a little AWOL these past few weeks. I really don't have much of an excuse. But I am getting back on track (if I don't, I'll owe Alison chocolate, and I really like chocolate, so I'd rather keep it all to myself.) So if you glance down the blog, you'll see three, that's right THREE, new stories this week. If anything, writing all these so quickly has helped me write without perfectionism. Without further ado:

The prompt: They say everyone who looks into their family history will find a secret sooner or later

My story:

They say everyone who looks into their family history will find a secret sooner or later. I never knew how a little research would change my life.

I had never known much about my mother, she’d died in my teens. Family history was my way of connecting with her and her family. It was fun, until I noticed the death date for my grandmother, exactly 38 years from her birth, just like my mom. The further I looked back, the clearer it became. The women in my family had an expiration date, and mine was less than five years away.

I hope you enjoyed my story. Please go check out the other writer's awesome tales! And don't forget to scroll down to read my make-ups for the last two weeks.

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Nothing left

Hey readers! Here's another make-up post. Check it out!

The prompt: There was nothing left of the money except

My story:

Scott pushed harder on the accelerator, swerving to avoid another car. If only he’d cracked the code earlier, he wouldn’t have to rush like this.

He muttered aloud to himself as he furiously drove, “If she gets there again first, so help me…”

Finally he reached the train station. He sprinted to the locker indicated in the decoded message and entered the combination with sweaty palms.

“Yes!” he cried. The bag was still inside.

His relief dissolved as he opened it. There was nothing left of the money except one bill. One bill with bright red lips kissed onto it.

I hope you like it! Let me know in the comments and check out the other's stories:

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Revenge

Hey all! Here's one of my two make ups. Hope you like it, revenge is always fun to write about. :)

The prompt: He didn't understand what he'd done to her, but he would by the time she was finished

My story:

Leila’s fingers danced over the keys, her anger fueling the pace. The incriminating letter to Matt’s boss practically wrote itself. She paused at the last line. Perhaps he hadn’t known that his letter full of lies would lead not only to her termination, but also to her family alienating her, her eviction from her house, and her fiancĂ© leaving her.

She pressed print.

She didn’t care. Just as he hadn’t cared.

He didn't understand what he'd done to her, but he would by the time she was finished. And she wouldn’t stop until his life was as miserable as hers.
