WonHundred Word Wednesday: Knocking

Once again, I've gotten a bit behind. But here's part of my effort to catch up. :)

Prompt: Was it a knock that had woken her?

My story:

Krista jumped awake.

She rubbed sleep from her eyes, trying to remember the dream she had been having. A shadowy figure drifted through her memory. Had she felt happy, scared or… something else? She couldn’t remember.

A knock sounded from downstairs. Was it a knock that had woken her? It was 5:00 AM, who would be knocking now?

Halfway down the stairs, she noticed the shadowy figure outside the door. Remembering her dream, she hesitated before hurrying down.

Krista opened the door a crack before throwing it open wide.

“Dad?”

Tears glistened in his eyes. “Hey, baby girl. I’m back.”
