WonHundred Word Wednesday: Close your eyes

Can you believe it's already Wednesday!? I love it! Man, this one was hard, but not for the usual reasons. Once I had my idea, it flowed really easily. But then I had 140ish words... and I really liked it! Made some revisions... 123... seriously? Anyway, after far too long, I finally got it to my cutoff... even though I cringed with each word I cut. But here we are! 100 words! (And then, just before I'm about to go to bed... I decide to turn the computer back on and make some changes... oh boy.)

Today's prompt: "No matter what you hear, no matter how badly you want to, do NOT open your eyes."

My story:

There is complete darkness.

But I know I'm not alone, I can feel his hand in mine. I don't dare let go, afraid I'll lose him.

“It’s going to be okay.” he whispers.

There. A light ahead, growing brighter; closer.

“Close your eyes.” he instructs. “No matter what you hear, no matter how badly you want to, do NOT open them.”

I obey, trusting him entirely. His hand leaves mine. I hear footsteps fading, then… silence.

I wait until I can’t bear it any longer. Ignoring my pounding heart, I open my eyes.

There is complete darkness.

I am alone.

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Truth about love

It's Wednesday! Man, these last few have been hard for me for some reason. It's just hard to get my brain going. But I like where this one ended up, and I hope you do too!

Prompt: The truth about love is...

My story:

She gave it away first before she even knew she was doing it. It was an automatic response to those who gave it to her. As she learned and grew, she gave it away more carefully, choosing to give it to those closest to her. She promised to give it forever with an exchange of rings. When she first held each tiny, wiggling bundle of joy, she gave away more than she knew she had. Though she gave and gave, she never ran out, because the truth about love is the more you give it away, the more it grows.

Let me know what you think in the comments and, of course, go check out every one else's stories.

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Box in the attic

So I realize it's Thursday... but Wednesday was just not happening for me for some reason. The day just went funny. Anyway, I finally got around to writing and posting this week's prompt! It's kind of ended up as a continuation of last week's story. :) Hope you enjoy!

Prompt: You find a box in the attic that isn't yours"

He balanced the heavy box carefully as he pushed open the attic door with his foot. The wedding fast approaching, they had finally finished moving her things into his home. He rearranged a few boxes, stabilizing the pile. He set a shoe box on top and flipped the lid open, curious what was inside. He smiled as he lifted snapshots out one by one, memories from their first days. Then… telephoto pictures, pages of detailed information, all about him. He heard her footsteps on the stairs, grasped the papers in his fist and turned to face her.

“What is this?”

Check out what everyone else did too!

WonHundred Word Wednesday: What they say

Whew... this one was hard for me. First it took me forever to decide on what direction to go. And even then it took a while to confine my thoughts to only 100 words. Anyway, without further ado... my 100 word story:

He handed me the tiny velvet box as we sat in his Porsche.

“You know what they say: Good things come in small packages.”

I opened the box and was amazed to see the sparkling diamond inside. Feelings of relief and pure joy soared through me. I succeeded. The months spent in constant efforts to win his affection, his trust, were worth the prize. My employer would be pleased, very pleased.

“Yes,” I agreed, thinking of the briefcases full of cash I would earn in exchange for the information I would pass on. “But better things come in big ones.”

Let me know what you think in the comments, and as always, be sure to check out the other writer's stories. (I've read them already, they are great and all take such different directions!)

WonHundred Word Wednesday: The flame

Welcome, welcome to WonHundred Word Wednesday! I am loving this challenge and getting to read everyone's stories. It's amazing the different directions these end up going.
Today's prompt: I stared at the flames that had...

It started so small, just a tiny flicker, harmless really. The thought had occurred to extinguish it then, when it was weak, but I resisted. It felt good to keep that tiny spark alive, feeding it faithfully. But then, confident in my control, I let it grow. It spread faster than expected; becoming a roaring inferno I could no longer smother.

Suddenly I realized the heat I felt rose not from the hate burning within, but from the unbridled blaze around me. I stared at the flames that began as a seed of disdain, acknowledging the power of anger unchecked.

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Fries with that?

Here it is, Wednesday!! If you're wondering "What is WonHundred Word Wednesday?" We are a writing group that responds to a writing prompt each week (on Wednesday), the kicker is we only get 100 words to write a story. Ever tried it? It's a little crazy :) But its super fun to write and to read everyone's stories. These writers are so creative!
Anyway, here is my response for this week's prompt: Would you like fries with that?

When I saw him, I knew he was the one. He was gorgeous, perfect in every way, and vastly superior to those around him. I waited anxiously, imagining when we would at last meet. A voice pierced through my fantasy, asking what I had dreamed of hearing. I responded automatically, anticipating every sinful moment that would soon be mine, trying to ignore the consequences that would undoubtedly follow.

The voice spoke again.

“What?” I asked, irritated at the interruption.

“Would you like fries with that?”

“No!” I exclaimed, horrified at the thought. “Just the burger.” The beautiful, wonderful, mouthwatering, burger.

I had fun with this one, let me know what you thought in the comments. And make sure to check out the other blogs, they are fantastic!
Happy reading!

WonHundred Word Wednesday: Horoscope

Wow, I totally forgot today was Wednesday... then when I remembered, I was in a hurry and couldn't post. My apologies. But here you go! Today's prompt is "Today's horoscope: Your prized possession will end up in someone else's hands."

I grab my phone, silencing the alarm. Before my eyes are fully open, I've anxiously clicked into my favorite app. Yawning, I read the words on the screen.

I jump out of bed, still tangled in my sheets and fall heavily to the floor. My heart is racing, I can barely breathe. How can this be happening?

My husband peers over the edge of the bed. “You ok?”

I show him the cursed words on my phone: “Today’s horoscope: Your prized possession will end up in someone else’s hands.”

“I’m sorry, honey,” I say. “You’ll have to stay home today.”

Let me know what you think! And go check out everyone else's blogs too, they come up with great stories!
