Can you believe it's already Wednesday!? I love it! Man, this one was hard, but not for the usual reasons. Once I had my idea, it flowed really easily. But then I had 140ish words... and I really liked it! Made some revisions... 123... seriously? Anyway, after far too long, I finally got it to my cutoff... even though I cringed with each word I cut. But here we are! 100 words! (And then, just before I'm about to go to bed... I decide to turn the computer back on and make some changes... oh boy.)
Today's prompt: "No matter what you hear, no matter how badly you want to, do NOT open your eyes."
My story:
There is complete darkness.
But I know I'm not alone,
I can feel his hand in mine. I don't dare let go, afraid I'll lose
him.
“It’s going to be okay.” he whispers.
There. A light ahead, growing brighter; closer.
“Close your eyes.” he instructs. “No matter what you hear, no matter how badly you want to, do
NOT open them.”
I obey, trusting him
entirely. His hand leaves mine. I hear footsteps fading, then… silence.
I wait until I
can’t bear it any longer. Ignoring my pounding heart, I open my eyes.
There is complete darkness.
I am alone.
Let me know what you think in the comments! And check out everyone else's stories too, that's what makes it fun!

I love it! Now I'm wondering what's next- where she is, what happened to the guy, all of it! :)
ReplyDeleteCutting words is the worst part of this! So hard. I love what you did, though, and I don't feel the loss of the hundred words (sometimes, if you cut too much, it's confusing, but this isn't.)
ReplyDeleteSuch an ache to have her eyes open and find him missing. I do hope he's coming back! I'd definitely love to know more about where they are and why he needed her to close her eyes and the whole bit.
Oh gosh. That's pretty chilling. Loved it!
