WonHundred Word Wednesday: Close your eyes

Can you believe it's already Wednesday!? I love it! Man, this one was hard, but not for the usual reasons. Once I had my idea, it flowed really easily. But then I had 140ish words... and I really liked it! Made some revisions... 123... seriously? Anyway, after far too long, I finally got it to my cutoff... even though I cringed with each word I cut. But here we are! 100 words! (And then, just before I'm about to go to bed... I decide to turn the computer back on and make some changes... oh boy.)

Today's prompt: "No matter what you hear, no matter how badly you want to, do NOT open your eyes."

My story:

There is complete darkness.

But I know I'm not alone, I can feel his hand in mine. I don't dare let go, afraid I'll lose him.

“It’s going to be okay.” he whispers.

There. A light ahead, growing brighter; closer.

“Close your eyes.” he instructs. “No matter what you hear, no matter how badly you want to, do NOT open them.”

I obey, trusting him entirely. His hand leaves mine. I hear footsteps fading, then… silence.

I wait until I can’t bear it any longer. Ignoring my pounding heart, I open my eyes.

There is complete darkness.

I am alone.

  1. I love it! Now I'm wondering what's next- where she is, what happened to the guy, all of it! :)

  2. Cutting words is the worst part of this! So hard. I love what you did, though, and I don't feel the loss of the hundred words (sometimes, if you cut too much, it's confusing, but this isn't.)
Such an ache to have her eyes open and find him missing. I do hope he's coming back! I'd definitely love to know more about where they are and why he needed her to close her eyes and the whole bit.
