Can you believe you're seeing this? A WWW post from me? Hard to imagine, but it's true! Hope you enjoy!
The prompt: He had kept their mother alive in their thoughts. Too alive, perhaps.
My Story:
Thomas held his sister’s
hand tightly. “Are you ready?”
Tears glistened in Jen’s
eyes, but she nodded.
He pushed the front
door of the old house open. Warmth spilled out, contrasting the cold winter
air.
“What’s going on?” Jen
asked, walking through the doorway.
They could smell fresh
bread, just like every Saturday morning growing up. But the house was dark, as
it should be, no one was home.
As Thomas closed the
door, the air shifted, full of the flowery scent of her perfume.
Since the funeral, he
had kept their mother alive in their thoughts.
Too alive, perhaps.
